Abstract :
Texture synthesis is used to render high quality textures on surfaces, and has been widely recognized as an important research topic in surface rendering. To overcome the low efficiency of previous methods, we present a fast algorithm to synthesize texture on surfaces. First, the surfaces are segmented into a series of mapping areas and synthesis areas using constraints of normal vector error. Then the mapping areas are textured through texture mapping, and the synthesis areas are textured through triangle-based synthesis method. By our algorithm, because the number of triangles whose textures need to be synthesized is much less than that by the traditional algorithms, the efficiency is greatly improved. The experimental results show that, for the stochastic textures as well as the most of structural textures, the presented algorithm can render high quality textures with little distortion and good continuity, and takes much less time than the present algorithms.
