Abstract :
Optical fibers present an ideal transmitting medium for high voltage measurements; they offer electrical isolation from the high voltage source and immunity to electromagnetic interference. Severe electromagnetic interference can occur in the measurement of high voltages and high currents. Fiber-optic links are totally immune to these affects and hence are being used extensively in these measurements. A measurement system based on fiber-optic technology is designed to measure the leakage current and system voltage in high voltage surge arresters. In this paper, this measurement system and its application as an on-line condition monitoring for ZnO surge arresters are discussed
