Abstract :
The development and application of a probabilistic fracture mechanics computer program is discussed. This program is obtained by integrating an advanced reliability analysis code, NESSUS, with a special purpose fracture mechanics boundary element program, BIECRX. The resulting program, NESSUS/BIECRX, can perform probabilistic and reliability analysis with respect to stress intensity factors, energy release rate, displacements, and stresses for two-dimensional structures in a highly accurate, yet efficient manner. Random variables with respect to geometry, loading, material properties, and crack parameters can be analyzed. Several numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the capabilities of NESSUS/BIECRX. The accuracy and efficiency of the program with respect to Monte Carlo methods is demonstrated
