Abstract :
The notions of D-characteristic equations, essential D-eigenvalues, and S1 and D1 canonical forms for vector and scalar linear differential equation (VLDE and SLDE) operators are introduced. Using the notion of D-similarity, an important relation between the vector operator and the SLDE operator is established, and an explicit procedure for reducing a VLDE operator to an SLDE operator via D-similarity transformation is derived
