Abstract :
The authors have successfully demonstrated trapping and laser cooling of ions in close proximity to an integrated microfabricated PFL, with ion sizes on the order of the wavelength of the scattered light. To their knowledge this represents the highest image resolution achieved with trapped ions so far. Furthermore, PFLs has the advantage of scalability as well as mass producibility.
