Abstract
Schemes that can be used to compress image data as well as nonimage database files efficiently are presented. An initial transformation (coding) step is applied to image data in order to induce desirable properties that enable the efficient application of popular lossless compression schemes that are normally well suited to text and database files. Further improvement is obtained by a scheme that utilizes the correlation properties of the transformed image files
