Abstract
This paper introduces new developments in fault transient based power system protection techniques. A brief review of history of relay development, which outlines the background of the new developments is first given in the paper. The concept of `transient based protection´ is then presented and the advantages of which over conventional techniques are highlighted through the introduction to a number of new transient based protection techniques under development
