Abstract :
Due to the incorrect packet loss rate about the traditional TCP-Friendly Rate Control (TFRC) mechanism, when mobile networks congestion happened, the mobile steaming media server could not get the accurate information of the network condition and led to inappropriate rate control. To resoleve the problem, an improved TFRC (I-TFRC) mechanism based on real-time transport control protocol (RTCP) was proposed. By sending RTCP in uniformly distributed periodic, I-TFRC mechanism could distinguish packet loss and get the correct packet loss rate to adjust the streaming data transmission rate in network congestion. Simulation in NS2 indicated that the I-TFRC mechanism had higher transmission rate and more stable than the traditional TFRC mechanism. Therefore, it could alleviate network congestion and improve the quality of service of mobile streaming media.
