Abstract
This paper reviews a successful case of mitigating excessive electromagnetic interference (EMI) of a new type of passenger information display units (PDUs) used on the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line. Instead of taking a contractual but confrontational approach on the non-conformance to requirements, the Employer adopted a partnering approach and deployed "in-house" EMC specialists to work closely with the supplier to identify design deficiencies leading to EMI and recommend necessary modifications. This approach was proven very effective as explained in details in the paper.
