Abstract
The evolution of the technology together with further cost optimisation goals lead to the definition of a new generation of architecture for the transmission substation at bay level. The architecture is constrained by various factors such as dependability, substation progressive refurbishment, use of different suppliers, etc. Examples are given including choices made by EDF (French utility)
