Title :
Planning of pedestrian link projects in Hong Kong
Abstract :
One of the success factors of the world class MTR system in Hong Kong is the provision of a seamless and good quality pedestrian link network between railway stations and nearby developments. The pedestrian link (abbreviated as "PedLink"), in the form of station entrance, pedestrian subway or footbridge, not only enhances the accessibility of railway stations but also brings significant social, economic and environmental benefits to the Hong Kong community as well as to the transportation system. There are two categories of PedLink: the first category is construction under new railway projects and the second category is addition to the existing railway networks. This paper aims at sharing the MTR\´s experience on planning and management of the second category PedLink projects. Case studies of three PedLink subway projects at different stages including one already in service, one under construction and the last one at planning stage will be discussed.
