Abstract
This paper is to present the reviewing results on the design and implementation of energy efficient technologies and their future development and applications of the vertical transportation system -escalator in the railway industry. Two alternative methods [1] are introduced to reduce energy consumption of escalator in the railway industry. The first one called "VSD" method, by installation of a variable frequency drive to link up with the scheduling control scheme. The second is to design a special "VVC" controller to reduce the energy by controlling the motor voltage and improving motor power factor when only fewer people using the escalator but keeping the speed constant.
