Abstract :
In this paper, a new educational tool in the form of a two-dimensional electromagnetic wave simulator is described. It is based on the Transmission Line Matrix (TLM) method of numerical analysis (a method using Huygens\´s principle in discretized form), employs a sophisticated graphics user interface, and runs on 286 and 386 MS-DOS computers, as well as RISC workstations (more powerful version). Since most university students have access to such machines, it becomes feasible to employ this Field Simulator as a "Visual Electromagnetics Laboratory", complementing the traditional teaching of microwave courses. The main features of the TLM Field Simulator are summarized, and typical application examples for the classroom are presented.
