Abstract :
The paper discusses a three step adaptive procedure for electromagnetic problems using the finite element method. The adaption scheme is based on an a posteriori error estimator. The nested adaption method in the automated 2-D finite element static solver has been implemented in three steps: the number of degrees of freedom in the mesh are increased using the standard refinement process based on the commonly used h-refinement method; the mesh is then checked to ensure that it is uniform using the newly implemented `improvement´ procedure; and finally the mesh is examined to ensure that it is regular using a `regularization´ process
