Abstract :
A new rewritable optical disc system for digital video recording (DVR) was recently introduced, using a high numerical aperture and a blue laser. In this paper, a new d=2 runlength limited (RLL) channel code is presented for the ROM-counterpart of the DVR format. We report on combi-codes as a new coding concept for efficient byte-oriented DC-free channel codes, with guaranteed DC-control instead of stochastic control, and with a simple encoding scheme for look-ahead DC-control.
