Abstract :
The incoming IEEE 802.11s wireless mesh network standard adopts enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) mechanism as the basic MAC layer access mechanism, and some proposals recommend improving the network allocation vector (NAV) supported by IEEE 802.11 standards. In this paper, the throughput performance of EDCA is compared in the case of full NAV setting and packet by packet NAV setting with and without NAV clear mechanism. The simulation results show that EDCA in the case of packet by packet NAV setting outperforms that in the case of full NAV setting and EDCA with NAV clear mechanism outperforms that without NAV clear mechanism.
