Abstract :
In this paper, we present a mode-locked Ytterbium-pumped Raman laser using carbon nanotubes. An all-fibre oscillator with all-normal dispersion is used, generating dissipative solitons. The setup consists of a high power Yb laser operating at 1070 nm coupled by a pump combiner into the cavity using a counter pumping geometry. The active medium consists of 100 m of highly nonlinear single mode optical fibre with enhanced Raman gain coefficient (2.5 W-ιkm"1). An isolator is used to ensure unidirectional propagation. After the 100 m fibre two wavelength division multiplexers (WDMs) extract un-depleted pump light from the cavity to prevent damage to other passive optical components. A polarization controller allows fine control of the birefringence and the carbon nanotube-doped polymer composite is integrated into the cavity between a pair of fibre connectors. The light is extracted from the cavity by a 10 % output coupler.
