Abstract :
In this paper, a new image compression algorithm that is based on DT-CWT and SPIHT is presented. Approximate shift invariance, good directional selectivity, computational efficiency properties of DT-CWT make it a good candidate for image compression. A modified SPIHT algorithmic, named as simple SPIHT, is introduced in order to increase its efficiency for image compression. The proposed simple SPIHT algorithms, which is based on not only the relationship between the bit-planes and the target bit-rate but also the relationship between the initial threshold and the target bit-rate, can effectively reduce the computation time and required memory space. Experimental results show that the proposed image compression method is efficient in terms of compression performance.
