Abstract :
As the threat to the Internet at large from poorly configured or maintained personal computers continues to increase it is increasingly important to consider ways to ´harden´ these machines. By adopting a model based on the already familiar requirement for licensing and safety checks for individually owned vehicles operated on public thoroughfares, it may be possible to facilitate the public policy debate and gain mass acceptance in a relatively short span of time.
