Trading in ancillary services

This paper describes the current arrangements for the procurement of ancillary services and how these services may be procured under NETA. The paper is separated into five sections. The first section outlines the categories of ancillary services that currently exist, the current procurement procedures. The second section outlines recent developments. Section three briefly describes the new market arrangements. Section four summarises Ofgem´s views on the procurement of ancillary services under NETA as set out in the recent consultation. Finally, section five outlines the authors´ views on the procurement of ancillary services in the future
