Abstract :
Analytical models for all-optical phase-sensitive BPSK and QPSK regeneration are presented, metrics for phase and intensity regeneration efficiency are derived. The models are based on the general principle of operation and do not depend on the regenerator´s physical structure. They offer the possibility of simple network planning and comparison of regenerators with fundamentally different physical structures. The models are applied to a simple transmission line with ten equally spaced phase-sensitive regenerators. Nonlinear intensity-to-phase noise transform is observed and signal degradation is described as function of intensity and phase regeneration efficiency.
