Abstract
Multiresolution isosurface extraction based on tetrahedral framework has many advantages, such as efficiency, continuity, locality, and so on. In this paper, we introduce two new features to improve this algorithm, that is, view-dependent and topology preserving. View-dependent isosurface extraction algorithm can accelerate extraction by ignoring surfaces which cannot be seen at current viewpoint, and topology preserving keeps the topological genus of the isosurface while changing the resolution. This paper, by combining the advantages of the above methods, proposes and implements a novel tetrahedral framework for view-dependent multiresolution isosurface extraction with topology preserving, which can accelerate isosurface extraction with quality controlled.
