Abstract :
In this paper, the achievable information rate of selective Rake (S-Rake) receivers with pulse shaping filters is studied over realistic UWB channels. A theoretical framework is proposed to evaluate the performance gap between the S-Rake receiver with pulse shaping filters and the optimum whitened matched filter (WMF) receiver. This framework measures the effect of such key system parameters as the shaping filter excess bandwidth, the multipath diversity order in S-Rake receivers and the information rate of interest on the performance loss, hence provides valuable insights for practical UWB receiver design. Simulation results are presented for the cases of S-Rake receivers with root raised cosine (RRC) filters under various transmission scenarios.
