Abstract
The basics of a new method for diagnosis in perinatology is presented. Its idea consists of the application of an infrared camera together with computer running specialized programs for image processing. This method is non-invasive and therefore it is possible to apply in pregnant women as well as in newborns. Thermography seems to be the only non-invasive and rapid method that allows diagnosing chorioamnionitis in subclinical cases with or without PROM symptoms (premature rupture of membranes). Thermography has limited value as a tool for neonatal infection screening.
