  • Abstract
An efficient method for calculating the time-domain waveform sensitivities in asymptotic waveform evaluation (AWE) using the adjoint method has been developed. Adjoint sensitivity analysis in AWE enables one to estimate the small-change variations in a waveform approximation very efficiently. The sensitivities provide useful insight for digital-circuit design improvement during optimization and reliability analysis. The application of statistical AWE models to gate-level timing characterization is demonstrated. The application of this technique to design optimization and the sensitivity of an RC transmission path to interlevel-metal coupling has been introduced
