Abstract :
The paper reports a new concept in the design of magnetically tunable multi-octave oscillators employing magnetostatic wave (MSW) delay line filter in the feedback loop of a wideband amplifier. The principle of the compensation of frequency dependent phase shifts in an oscillator circuit is formulated and on its base a novel class of narrowband MSW delay lines synchronously tuned with the frequency of oscillations is suggested. The elimination of a typical defect of conventional MSW oscillators - frequency jumping during tuning - is achieved in a multi-octave frequency band for comparatively long connecting transmission lines that enables to take advantages of hybrid technology and circuit modularity in the oscillator design. The resultant continuous frequency tuning range of proposed oscillators is determined only by the band-width of amplifiers being in use.
