Abstract :
This paper presents the fundamental concepts, basic structures, and construction of trellises for linear codes. It also includes a number of trellis-based decoding algorithms. Particularly, two new decoding algorithms, one for block codes and the other for convolutional codes, are presented. Both algorithms are more efficient than the well known Viterbi (1967) algorithm
