Abstract :
Retrieving huge collections of images from the World Wide Web (WWW) based on image content is a challenging field which is receiving a lot of attention from researchers. Most investigations focus on feature extraction and feature matching motivated by image processing and computer vision. We propose a distributed content-based image query system (DCBIQ) based on the WWW. The system architecture integrating knowledge from image processing, semantic descriptors, multi-agents, and WWW navigation is proposed. By extracting the texture, colour, shape features and spatial relationships of the image, we use semantic descriptor models, along with constraints, to query desired images distributed on the WWW. An initial prototype based on NT and extended SQL server has been implemented
