Abstract :
A novel high-gain patch antenna using tree-like fractal metamaterial structure has been designed. Simulated results show that the tree-like metamaterial structure has the property of the negative permeability. The proposed fractal antenna was constructed by changing the substrate of traditional patch antenna with the tree-like structure. The measured impedance bandwidth of the antenna is about 7.2%. The fractal antenna gain was enhanced by 1.8dB comparing with the conventional microstrip antenna, and the 3dB beamwidth of the E-plane was reduced by 16.2°. The tested results are in good agreement with that of the simulation.
