Abstract :
The Microwaves Laboratory has been involved for more than ten years in the study of scintillation occurring on signals propagating on a slant-path. A new model has been developed for the evaluation of the impact of turbulence on line-of-sight links. The originality of this model is its deterministic nature, that enables the evaluation of an atmospheric channel transfer function used in link simulation programs to predict the impact of scintillation on communication systems. The model is based on the physical mechanism of turbulence in the lower atmosphere and allows to simulate scintillation events in agreement with both theory and experimental results.
