Abstract :
A hierarchical networking strategy for the fiber distributed data interface, HFDDI, is presented, that offers solutions to the problem of performance degradation due to large numbers of stations on an FDDI ring, and the geographical distance. The hierarchical decomposition in HFDDI allows to reduce the network into manageable clusters, encouraging modularity, scalability, and cost effectiveness. Through simulations the performance benefits of HFDDI are illustrated
