Abstract
To investigate if Trans-corneal Electrical Stimulation (TcES) is effective to evaluate the inner-retinal function.Pupil reflex evoked by TcES was assessed in eyes of normal subject and of optic neuropathy. Optical imaging of the retina in response to TcES was also investigated in a cat. The relative amplitude of pupil reflex increased linearly with the current and the threshold was higher and the amplitude was lower in eyes with optic neuropathy. Optical imaging by TcES showed reflectance changes in the retina, optic disc and artery with similar time-course. The reflectance change in the artery was related to the current intensity. Pupil reflex by TcES is effective to assess the inner-retinal function. Optical imaging by TcES has a potential to demonstrate the inner-retinal function 2-dimensionally.
