Abstract :
A 2.4-GHz RFIC-on-chip antenna in 0.18 um CMOS 1p6M process is presented. The HFSS 3-D EM simulator is employed for design simulation. A printed 2.4 GHz antenna has been realized by using the CMOS RFIC-on-chip. The measured VSWR is less than 2 from 2.4- to 2.483-GHz. The measured phase distribution of the input impedance is quite linear and the H-plane patterns are almost omnidirectional. The Kirchhoff´s surface integral representation (KSIR) was adopted in the developed FDTD code to compute the far field distributions from the near filed ones in time-domain. For the biometry applications the investigation of the body effect on the antenna radiation characteristics is achieved. The human tissue includes single layer of muscle and three-layer tissue. Simulated results illustrate that the included current in fat layer is very small due to the lower dielectric constant and conductivity. After adding a floating metal, the absorbed energy of human tissue will be reduced. The chip area is 0.495 (0.75×0.66 mm2).
