Abstract :
In large-scale systems, the optimal control of isolated subsystems leads in general to suboptimal control of the overall system. An exception is made when the interactions between subsystems are neutral. This paper discusses the problem of neutralizing interactions in large scale systems. A new characterization of neutral interactions is provided. Then using linear quadratic controllers for isolated subsystems, the choice of the design parameters are derived to achieve neutralization of the interactions
