Abstract
Anxiety, as an essential personality factor, plays an important affective role in second language acquisition. This paper attempts to find out whether anxiety and the reading comprehension proficiency are in relation to a number of independent variables such as gender and family background etc, and thus try to locate the sources of the foreign language anxiety. This paper concludes with a discussion of some suggestions for English language teachers and learners in China to improve the second language learning process.
