Abstract
Design and performance of a balanced resistive MESFET mixer, suited for space telecommunication frequency converters in the 14/12GHz and 18/12GHz range are described. The mixer is realised in uniplanar MIC technology, where only one side of the substrate is used. The LO frequency is applied to the transistor gates by means of a coplanar-waveguide/coplanar-strip-balun. A coplanar-waveguide/coupled-slot-line magic-T couples the input and output signals to the drain ports of the two FETs. A conversion loss of typically 8dB and a 3rd order intercept point of 12dBm with an LO drive of 6dBm have been achieved. The isolation between all ports is higher than 20dB.
