  • Abstract
    The application of impedance-transforming branch-line couplers to the design of an L-band high power MESFET amplifier is presented for the first time. By using the impedance-transforming coupler to power combine the MESFETs, the matching networks are simplified considerably leading to lower losses and hence improved performance. The amplifier presented here operates at a centre frequency of 1.7 GHz and has a measured small-signal gain of 8.5 dB with a CW output power of over 18 W.
