Abstract :
Fault location estimation is a significant task for the power system reliability. And tradition estimation method by using of two terminal electrical quantities can provide an accurate result under steady condition. Considering the impacts of dynamic conditions on the parameters of transmission lines, such as power oscillation, dynamic fault location estimation (DFLE) method based on Phaser Measurement Units (PMUs) is presented. This method has employed a dynamic variable and a time-varying angular frequency to express dynamic characteristics to extend the steady-state equations. Simulations with the help of PSCAD/EMTDC are done and the results allow us to make a conclusion that the proposed method has better performance on fault location than the traditional one at the cost of minor computation increase.
