Abstract :
The Upatch antenna provides an alternative to the halfwave square patch antenna. This antenna occupies one third to one quarter of the surface area of the square halfwave patch antenna but has a more complicated feed structure. The bandwidth is similar but the radiation pattern is more omnidirectional. The isolation between the elemental antennas is about 20dB. The antenna is oriented to operate as a polarization diversity antenna. It can be used equally well as a pattern diversity antenna (with patterns of cos/spl theta/, sin/spl theta/) with vertical polarization by positioning the ground plane of the antenna to be coincident with the xy plane.
