Abstract :
Open area test sites (OATS) and semi-anechoic chambers are used for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) compliance measurements and antenna calibration. But deviations between different test sites are still an actual issue [D.N. Heirman, 1993], [M. Spitzer et al, 2002]. To minimize the deviations against the ideal ground plane it is necessary to analyze the factors of influence. The characterization of the ground plane geometry (shape, size) and the influence on the normalized site attenuation (NSA) is presented in S. Battermann (2004), W. Mullner et al, (2001). This contribution presents the appropriate measurement method to evaluate the ground plane characteristics and the termination of the plane at the rim. It is possible to detect and localize discontinuities (defects) and furthermore a quantification and evaluation can be done.
