Abstract :
A simplified digital syllabic compander (SDSC) that can be used for noise compression over a poor radio channel is discussed. The SDSC proposed employs the mean absolute estimator and the damping factor for computing the scale parameters. From the simulations performed, the SDSC satisfies CCITT (International Telegraphy and Telephony Consultative Committee) G.162 specifications on nonlinear distortions and the transient response
