Abstract :
A study was conducted to investigate lightning induced transient behavior on aircraft power systems and avionics power interfaces. Experiments were performed on a large aluminum ground plane with a wiring network and loads representative of the power system. The electrical power bus was found to suppress the transient coupling originating in the power feeder and power source to some degree. Several wiring types and grounding schemes for power connections to avionics equipment were investigated. Certain configurations were found to offer some benefit. Considerations for qualification testing of the power interfaces are discussed.
