Abstract :
An expression for the harmonic current of a thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) as an explicit function of its terminal voltage and thyristor firing instants is formulated in the context of the increased interest in TCR harmonics. The expression is used to examine the effects of terminal voltage distortion and is incorporated into an iterative algorithm to assess the harmonic interactions in a TCR. The response of the TCR´s controller to the effects of such harmonic interaction is included in the iterative algorithm to show its importance in the interaction process, without the need for a full harmonic load flow
