Abstract
A technique to reduce an utterance´s redundant characteristics to minimize the bandwidth required and improve security in portable communication units (PCUs) is discussed. A PCU is proposed that can build and memorize a pragmatic phonetic lexicon derived from quantized speech traits unique to a speaker. The transmitter would encode each time segment containing a single sound to generate the phonetic lexicon at the receiver. Then, the receiver would replicate speech intelligence by matching each identification code with a single sound found in its memory-resident phonetic lexicon.
