Abstract :
This paper evaluates the effect of unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) on transient performance of common-shaft cascade induction motors (CSCIM). This system is commonly used in deep well digging plant (i.e. oil wells). This paper also introduces novel functionalities for UPQC (e.g. it protects the cascade scheme from supply voltage sag and swells and provides a controllable power factor condition). The transient events presented in this paper are obtained by using MATLAB/Simulink environment. These events include system starting, supply voltage sag and swells as well as plugging. The simulation results show that the UPQC has a great capability in order to enhance the transient performance of studied system.
