Abstract
With the rapid evolution of mobile communication networks towards heterogeneity, it becomes very important for operators to support session continuity. Now, the IMS based infrastructure has been accepted widely, but it lacks of advanced technology to reduce handoff delays, especially during vertical handoff. In this article, an optimized mechanism is originated for session continuity. This mechanism is based on migratable mobility proxy (MMP). It could cut some standard register procedures to reduce the time cost during handoff, and then promote the quality of services. Our solution fully compliant with the standard IMS infrastructure and does not require any significant changes to the standard network. The analytical result has shown that our solution could offset the shortage in existing solutions.
