Abstract
In this paper we show how, using off the shelf components, a 3D laser scanner can be obtained, that retains both flexibility and accuracy. Simple and reliable calibration procedures for geometric and light parameters are described. Results on its application to some of the production problems that do occur in the tyre industry are shown.
