Abstract
This paper details a new approach to managing traffic at motorway widening roadworks using the combination of fast movable solid barrier technology with a web based software system. This system relies on the principles of traffic flow prediction and horizontal traffic queuing simulation to provide accurate real time intelligence. Its use informs the decisions of contractors´ traffic management crews and roadworks planners so they can optimise their management of roadspace and avoid causing additional congestion during their widening works.
