  • Abstract
Choice of slot shapes of stator conditions the design parameter and running performance of electrical machines directly. This paper deals with influence of using closed slots in direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generators (DDPMSG). 10 kw wind generator models with different slot shapes including closed slots are analyzed to determine advantage of closed slots in weakening cogging torque of PMSG. This paper also derive a method for calculating slot leakage reactance in electrical machine design, which has been validated by Ansoft Maxwell finite-element analysis (FEA).
