Abstract :
We consider the electromagnetic scattering of a plane monochromatic wave by an infinite wedge of angle /spl beta/, permittivity /spl epsiv//sub 2/ and permeability /spl mu//sub 2/, surrounded by a medium characterized by /spl epsiv//sub 1/ and /spl mu//sub 1/. The fields near the edge of a dielectric wedge have been studied both theoretically and numerically. Some of the components of the fields are seen to diverge, although the computed fields do not appear to follow the theoretically derived behaviour along all directions. The fields E/sub z/, in the TE mode and H/sub z/, in the TM mode are expected to behave like /spl rho/(-t) where t obeys the equation sin(/spl Pi/t)=rsin[(/spl Pi/-/spl beta/)t]. The two modes are no longer independent for oblique incidence, and we seek to determine the expected behaviour of the fields for an arbitrary direction of incidence and polarization.
